TSMC to be main manufacturer of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips
The majority of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip orders of Qualcomm will be yielded by TSMC.
TAINAN, Taiwan (TechtUSA) - Qualcomm is expected to work with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) (2330.TW) and Samsung for the production of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The company has been collaborating with these two manufacturers for a long time.
According to the latest reports, TSMC will take massive orders of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It is said that 80% of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 3nm SoC production will be made by TSMC.
The current efficiency rate of 3nm GAA wafer is between 60% and 70%. However, TSMC can achieve 75% to 80% efficiency ratio in a single wafer as reported by official data. Samsung with its 3nm GAA process technology was doing very poorly as reported, and the efficiency figure is only 20% so far.
Previously, Qualcomm completely abandoned Samsung's chip services, switching Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 production to TSMC for the better efficiency.
The main problem for Qualcomm and other chip brands is to feature a higher price to customers due to the money paid per wafer and yielding a lower amount of SoC. This causes the price of smartphones to increase.
When will Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips be introduced?
There is still a long time until the official announcement for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This processor is expected to become official by the end of 2023. The smartphone will power the advanced flagship smartphones in near future.
