TSMC in talks with suppliers to build first European chip plant in Germany
TSMC is in advanced talks with key suppliers about first European chip plant to be built in Germany city of Dresden.
TAIPEI, Taiwan- (TechtUSA) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) (2330.TW) is in talks with the suppliers about setting up its first possible European plant in Dresden, Germany.
It was stated that the company's senior executives will go to Germany next year to meet with the government on issues such as plant and local supply chain capacity.
It is stated that the final decision will be taken after the meeting, and the construction of the factory can function in 2024.
The TMSC Spokesperson told the Financial Times (FT) that the factory could be planted in Dresden.
The Financial Times did not specify whether federal, regional, or local government support would be provided for the first possible chip plant in the Europe.
Dresden, the capital of the east German state of Saxony, said it was always in talks with leading microelectronics companies.
TSMC also announced earlier this month that it plans to open a $40 billion factory in Arizona. The Arizona factories of TSMC will produce the 3nm and 4nm chips used for iPhone processors.
