Texas - SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, made its inaugural launch of the Starship rocket on Thursday, but unfortunately, it did not reach space as it exploded during mid-flight. The mission did not have any crew members on board.

"Starship just experienced what we call a rapid unscheduled disassembly, or a RUD, during ascent," said SpaceX engineer John Insprucker, launch commentator on SpaceX's webcast.

"Now this was a development test, this was the first test flight of Starship, and the goal is to gather the data and as we said, clear the pad and get ready to go again. So you never know exactly what's going to happen, but as we promised, excitement is guaranteed! Starship gave us a rather spectacular end to what was truly an incredible test." he added.

On Monday, SpaceX's initial attempt to launch the Starship rocket was hindered by a frozen pressure valve in the Super Heavy booster. However, the SpaceX teams worked diligently to address various undisclosed issues, leading to a second attempt on Thursday.

Throughout the process, SpaceX leadership emphasized the experimental nature of the launch and stated that any outcome involving the Starship leaving the launchpad would be considered a success.

The rocket achieved a flight time of nearly 4 minutes and successfully separated from the Super Heavy booster, a significant in-flight milestone. Unfortunately, it experienced an unexpected event that SpaceX referred to as a "rapid unscheduled disassembly."

Elon Musk acknowledged that SpaceX gained valuable insights from Thursday's launch and hinted at another test launch in the coming months, indicating that the company had acquired significant knowledge from the recent experience.
