Emerging reports suggest that Redmi is in the process of developing a new tablet device. This news came to light when the device was spotted on the EEC certification database, bearing the model number 23073RPBFG. Although the listing did not reveal the name or specifications of the device, it is believed to be the Redmi Pad 2.
According to a tweet from tipster Kacper Skrzypek, the Redmi Pad 2 will likely be powered by a Snapdragon 680 chipset. This marks a departure from its predecessor, the Redmi Pad, which was equipped with the Helio G99 SOC.
Concerns are being raised about whether the Redmi Pad 2 represents a downgrade in performance compared to the original Redmi Pad. This is because the new Snapdragon 680 chipset, despite being a respected component, doesn't perform as well as the Helio G99 SOC. On average, the Helio G99 delivers around 16% better GPU performance and typically outperforms the Snapdragon 680 by about 35% in AnTuTu benchmarks. The price point at which the Redmi Pad 2 is introduced will be crucial in determining its value proposition, especially if there is a notable dip in performance.
