According to IDC, there was a sharp dop in Chromebook shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022, with a 24.3% decrease year-over-year and 3.6 million units sold. The whole of 2022 saw a 48% decrease in Chromebook shipments compared to the 180.5% growth in 2021.
Samsung and Apple leads the tablet market
Apple and Samsung remained at the forefront of the tablet market, with Apple's market share increasing by 10 percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2022, driven by the introduction of several new products.
Samsung's emphasis on its high-end tablet line also contributed to higher shipment volumes. Amazon, however, experienced a decrease in shipments due to weak demand, despite the fourth quarter being its best quarter for shipments.
Huawei and Lenovo were neck and neck for the fourth place, with Huawei benefiting from a rise in sales of large-screen tablets in China and Lenovo's shipments decreasing because of the completion of multiple business projects. In light of the saturation of the tablet market and the economic slowdown, vendors will need to concentrate on the commercial sector to generate sales.
