Meta-owned WhatsApp has been proactively integrating a host of new features, marking a departure from its previous sporadic update frequency. The app previously showed notable differences between the iOS and Android platforms. Still, the recent modifications are striving to create a consistent, streamlined user interface across both operating systems.

In the latest WhatsApp update (version 2.23.16.6), two crucial safety features have been incorporated. Users will now be greeted with a specialized safety screen when they receive messages from unfamiliar numbers. This screen presents options to either block the contact or report it to WhatsApp's moderation team, and it also provides useful tips for maintaining chat safety, like checking profile information.

In addition, the update brings in a privacy feature that stops senders from knowing when their message has been read. This attribute is activated when the "read receipts" setting is turned on, and the sender won't be alerted until the recipient replies or adds the contact to their address book, thus offering an extra level of privacy. These features are particularly helpful as WhatsApp now enables users to message unknown contacts without needing to store their numbers.

For the time being, these safety tools are available to a limited number of beta testers who have downloaded the latest WhatsApp beta update from the Google Play Store. The company intends to gradually make these safety features accessible to a wider audience in the upcoming period.

WhatsApp's recent changes have not only targeted user safety but also aimed to enhance the user experience. One remarkable update has introduced refinements influenced by the Material Design 3 guidelines, striving to offer a more contemporary and visually pleasing interface for its users.

WhatsApp also continues to work on additional features. They have recently unveiled a video messaging feature, akin to voice messaging, and have added support for Wear OS smartwatches. The preceding beta update also incorporated a time-efficient group creation feature and an animated avatar feature for increased personalization.
