WhatsApp is taking new steps to enhance call privacy
As one of the most significant names in the world of social media, WhatsApp currently takes new steps to boost call privacy.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has always been at the forefront of user privacy, and their latest update is a testament to this commitment. In the recent update, version 2.23.18.15, available through the Google Play Beta Program, the platform introduced significant features prioritizing user data protection.
One of the significant enhancements is the introduction of the privacy relay feature for calls. In its earlier versions, WhatsApp brought forth the silence unknown callers feature, a move to mute calls from unrecognized contacts, amplifying call privacy. The newly introduced privacy relay takes it a step further by rerouting calls via WhatsApp servers.

This rerouting hides the user's IP address, essentially eliminating the possibility of call participants deducing their location. However, this rerouting might come at the cost of call quality, introducing a challenge of striking the right balance between ensuring privacy and maintaining quality.
As the privacy relay feature is currently in its testing phase with a select group of beta users, it promises to be accessible to a broader user base soon, paving the way for a stable release in the near future. Apart from this groundbreaking feature, WhatsApp is also developing other exciting additions, like replying to status updates using avatars, sharing photos and videos in their original quality, and unveiling a revamped calling interface.
