Tim Cook, CEO of the giant based in Cupertino, made the announcement this morning in Arizona that the company intends to acquire chips manufactured in the United States by TSMC, the largest contract chipmaker in the world. For those who are not aware, the multibillion-dollar semiconductor plant that the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has recently constructed in Arizona will begin production in 2024.

In light of the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, Apple also gains from this decision to source from within the United States. Despite the US's pledge to defend the nation, the latter has been eyeing the former. In any case, military struggles will make it harder for the organization to source its chips from the area. As a result, supplying it from its home market will aid in chip supply chain security.

The Arizona plant of TSMC, which is expected to begin producing advanced 5nm process-based chips by 2024, is expected to cost around 12 billion US dollars. It even reportedly intends to begin 3nm production to satisfy Apple's demand.
