Telegram is criticized by the leader of WhatsApp
Messaging apps WhatsApp and Telegram have been strong rivals of each other. Now the situation has been going intense.
Mark Zuckerberg stated a few months ago that WhatsApp is significantly more secure than iMessage." Now, Telegram, another messaging service, has been criticized by Will Cathcart, the president of WhatsApp at Meta. The two applications are strong rivals for each other. Last year WhatsApp has lost so many users due to security concerns.
Telegram is criticized by the leader of WhatsApp
Cathcart cited his personal criticism of Telegram's end-to-end encryption (E2EE) implementation as well as a Wired piece. Cathcart claims that it has not been independently validated and that there are other faults, such as the fact that E2EE is not available for group chats and that it is not activated by default.
Telegram is not end-to-end encrypted by default and offers no e2ee for groups. From the article: “Telegram has the capacity to share nearly any confidential information a government requests”

WhatsApp has its own criticisms from the Telegram team. For instance, the ability to backup chats to Google Drive effectively disables encryption because the backups are not encrypted and because Google can be requested by the government rather than WhatsApp for the data.
