Snapchat launches 'My AI' chatbot, powered by OpenAI's AI tech
The feature will only be available on an experimental basis to Snapchat Plus subscribers for $3.99 per month starting this week.
Snapchat is still a popular social media platform, especially among younger generations. The app is known for its disappearing messages and fun filters, which have made it a popular choice for sharing quick, informal updates with friends and followers.
As announced, Snapchat has joined the trend of creating language models by introducing its own bot called "My AI". This bot will be accessible from the chat tab within the app, and it will be located above all other ongoing conversations. This move follows the introduction of similar language models by other tech giants such as OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google.
According to report from The Verge, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel mentioned that initially, the My AI bot will only be accessible to subscribers of Snapchat+ which will cost $3.99 a month. However, the company aims to eventually make the bot available to all Snapchat users.
“The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day,” Spiegel said. “And this is something we’re well positioned to do as a messaging service.”
The Verge reports that My AI, Snapchat's new bot, is similar to ChatGPT in its functionality. However, unlike ChatGPT, My AI has certain limitations in terms of the topics it can address. It has been trained by Snap's employees to follow the company's safety guidelines, which means it is programmed to avoid responses containing swearing, violence, sexually explicit content, and opinions on sensitive issues.
