Netflix launches spatial audio for premium members
Netflix has announced a significant expansion of its library of titles that support spatial audio technology to include its most popular movies and shows.
Netflix is launching the spatial audio boost to more than 700 titles following a trial rollout in the summer on a few titles, such as Stranger Things Season 4. That includes Wednesday, The Watcher, and Knives Out, as it stated in a blog post today.
Spatial audio feature will require the most expensive membership to enjoy
The spatial audio technology, which will be identified by a special icon (below) next to the title's description, will only be accessible to subscribers to the most expensive Netflix Premium subscription. Additionally, users will be able to directly search for supported titles.
Users won't need any special audio/video equipment to use the technology, which is powered by Sennheiser's Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio technology if they pay for the Premium tier. Instead of high-end soundbars like those that support Dolby Atmos, which Netflix already supports, it is made for phones, tablets, and laptops with stereo speakers.
“Now, with Netflix spatial audio, our members with Premium will enjoy the highest quality sound experience available, whether they are watching at home on TV or a computer, or on the go with a phone or tablet,” Netflix stated in that blog post.
“Netflix spatial audio brings an immersive, cinematic sound experience on any device with no additional equipment required.” the company added.
