Microsoft has confirmed that the Outlook and OneDrive outages experienced in June were the result of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, with indications pointing towards a group with pro-Russian affiliations as the responsible party. These attacks temporarily disrupted the services and raised concerns over cybersecurity vulnerabilities, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by technology companies in defending against such malicious activities.

Following an earlier claim by a group called Anonymous Sudan, Microsoft has confirmed that the recent service disruptions affecting Outlook, OneDrive, and other online services were a result of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. The company identified the threat actor behind the attacks as Storm-1359, also known as Anonymous Sudan.

While Microsoft clarified that no customer data was compromised, cybersecurity researchers suspect that the group may have ties to the Kremlin-affiliated Killnet gang. Anonymous Sudan's collaboration with Killnet and another pro-Russian gang, Revil, further suggests a potential connection. The alliance has expressed intentions to target SWIFT, the international interbanking system, following the U.S. and EU sanctions imposed on Russia in response to its actions in Ukraine.
