According to TechCrunch, Google's requirement for Play Store developers to use its billing system "constitutes an imposition of unfair condition" after a lengthy investigation. The regulator determined that Google imposed "discriminatory conditions" by not using the billing system for its own apps.
Within three months, the agency has instructed Google to permit third-party payments in the Play Store. It stated that Google cannot prevent app developers from promoting apps and services to users and cannot impose anti-steering provisions on them. In a similar vein, the business can not prevent users from using services and features developed by developers. Additionally, the Competition Commission stated that Google must provide Play Store developers with full transparency and cannot impose conditions on them that "are unfair, unreasonable, discriminatory, or disproportionate to the services provided to the app developers." After determining that Google abused Android's dominance, the Competition Commission assessed the company a fine of $161.9 million this past week.
