Following some events, countries restrict WhatsApp from time to time which can be a problem for security, but now the famous messaging app is adding another important update. With the new proxy setting, users will be able to reach WhatsApp even when it is restricted.

Popular messaging app have had many problems with security last years and lost many users to Telegram, but it looks like with the new updates this situation is changing again. It's helpful to have a back-up plan in case authoritarian governments block VPNs or other online communication channels. As a result, WhatsApp is introducing proxy support in an effort to support users residing in oppressive regimes.

"Choosing a proxy enables you to connect to WhatsApp through servers set up by volunteers and organizations around the world dedicated to helping people communicate freely," the company explained in a blog post today. Users need to make sure WhatsApp is up to date to the most recent version. Keep in mind that the setting can be found in slightly different locations on iOS and Android.

Once news of the feature spreads, you will need to enter a proxy server address as part of the setup. You can find this address through friends or social media. WhatsApp also recommends these steps to anyone interested in hosting a proxy server. 

WhatsApp claims that end-to-end encryption will continue to safeguard all proxied messages.
