Apple’s Upcoming AR/VR Headset will have a surprising feature
According to the most recent report, Apple's augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) headset will be powered by xrOS, the company's proprietary mixed reality headset operating system. Bloomberg reports that Apple has decided to use the name xrOS rather than RealityOS or rOS for the software that powers the augmented reality and virtual reality headsets. The tech giant is expected to be getting ready for the headset's launch in 2023, so this new information about the software comes at a good time. Similar to the Apple TV and Apple Watch, the headset will have its own operating system as well as a dedicated app store.
If the rumors are true, the Apple device will be a Mixed Reality device that will support both augmented reality and virtual reality, much like the Microsoft HoloLens. The XR expression represents Broadened Reality, which incorporates both expanded and computer generated reality.
For better use with an AR/VR headset, Apple has redesigned some of its applications, such as Maps and Messenger.
