Wikipedia ban is lifted after short time
Pakistan lifts its three-day ban on Wikipedia. Here are all the details regarding the situation.
Three days after Pakistan shut Wikipedia due to what government officials perceived to be "sacrilegious" information, users there can now access the website once more. TechCrunch reports that after concluding that the ban was "not a suitable way to prevent access to some undesirable contents/sacrilegious information on it," prime minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed officials to unblock Wikipedia. In a statement, Sharif's administration said that the "benefits" of this general ban were overshadowed by the "unintended consequences."

Last Wednesday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) "degraded" access to Wikipedia, giving its administrators 48 hours to remove offensive material or face repercussions. Wikipedia reportedly objected, and on Friday, the PTA in Pakistan shut the website.
A cabinet committee is being formed by Sharif in the meanwhile to "research and recommend alternative technological methods." Being one of the most important websites online, Wikipedia holds great importance.
