WhatsApp elevates its security level

Being one of the prominent names in the social media world, WhatsApp appears to be focusing on enhancing its security measures lately.

WhatsApp, now under the Meta umbrella, has been actively rolling out new features. A recent revamp saw the platform overhauling its UI and UX to align with the Material Design 3 guidelines. This change was notably observed in recent beta updates. Parallelly, efforts are being put into bolstering the app's security. A report from WABetaInfo highlights that the 2.23.16.15 update is gearing towards amplifying account protection by integrating email addresses, although the specifics remain under wraps.

Earlier in the year, WhatsApp brought forth several protective features. These ranged from safeguards against unauthorized account migrations between devices, barriers against malware that exploit the app, to streamlined security code verifications via automatic codes. This shows the brand's ongoing dedication to user security.

Hints from the latest beta updates suggest a move towards linking security features with users' email addresses, offering an added shield. This mechanism is projected to be optional and is distinct from the already-present two-step verification, which also involves email. While the intricacies of how this newly teased feature will operate in comparison to existing ones have yet to be detailed, it evidently emerges as a potential asset for account safety. Further iterations might shed more light on this feature when it gets integrated into future beta releases.

WhatsApp is also unveiling more in its recent beta updates. Animated avatars are making an appearance, and a swift group creation utility has been added. Not stopping there, the firm introduced a video messaging tool, reminiscent of its voice message function. Additionally, a rendition of WhatsApp tailored for Wear OS smartwatches is now in the distribution phase.
