In April, Dorsey expressed his regret for playing a role in "the internet's coming to this state": When the discovery of the Internet and the storage of identities were centralized in companies, the Internet really suffered. I realize that I am partly guilty of this, and I regret it.
the days of usenet, irc, the web...even email (w PGP)...were amazing. centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet.

I realize I'm partially to blame, and regret it.
According to a statement released by Bluesky, the project will operate independently of Elon Musk's proposed acquisition of Twitter. Bluesky has been operating independently as a public benefit limited liability company since February 2022. Bluesky is free to use its resources for its mission without having to pay shareholders back money because of this. Along with a high-level overview of the network architecture, Bluesky released the source code for an experimental personal data server and a command-line client in May 2022. Additionally, they disclosed that before the process is finished, they will begin to share the platform's development process.
