Twitter users might soon pay more to avoid ads, as Elon Musk proposes
Users of social media platforms might face with charges if they want to avoid ads.
Musk stated that the social media platform would be "taking steps" to deal with the issue of the advertisements being displayed on Twitter at an excessively frequent rate and taking up too much space. Moreover, Musk repeated that there will also be a new, more expensive subscription level that will completely eliminate ads.
Elon Musk said “Ads are too frequent on Twitter and too big. Taking steps to address both in coming weeks. Also, there will be a higher priced subscription that allows zero ads.”
An ad-free Twitter experience would be controversial
Twitter, which has traditionally relied on targeted advertising to generate revenue, is considering a shift in its business model by launching a paid subscription service.
However, this change comes at a time when the company is facing challenges with its advertising revenue, following a significant reduction in its workforce by Elon Musk, which has raised concerns about the company's ability to effectively moderate content and maintain relationships with governments and advertisers.
Twitter has been facing a number of issues since CEO Elon Musk took over, including mass layoffs, the return of banned accounts, and the suspension of journalists who have been critical for the company.
These issues has caused chaos on the platform. Additionally, racist and hateful tweets have risen reported by analysts, drawing the attention of regulators and causing major advertisers to withdraw from the platform, which is the primary source of revenue for Twitter.
