Twitter data breach affects 400 million users, hacker claims
A threat actor claims they have obtained data of 400 million Twitter users and offering them for sale.
Allegedly, a group of hackers has put up for sale a file containing critical data such as phone numbers and e-mail addresses of 400 million Twitter users. The data breach that is reported to occur in the beginning of 2022 include the personal information of important names such as Donald Trump and Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin
The hacker is now trying to sell the data of 400 million Twitter users while they state that they obtained this data by exploiting a vulnerability in Twitter.
Hacker offers Elon Musk to purchase stolen 400 million Twitter account data
The hackers who exploited Twitter's database and grabbed these informations from 400 million Twitter account offered Elon Musk to buy these datas. The hacker who seized these datas asked $276 million from Elon Musk if he does want these datas to be leaked into web.
The seller claims that the database is private, and as evidence, he provided a sample of 1,000 accounts containing the private information.
According to Hudson Rock, who conducts research on cyber attacks, the database mentioned above contains information belonging to some of the most important names of Twitter and even the world.
Moreover research company stated that informations belonging to Donald Trump Jr., famous entrepreneur Kevin O'Leary and Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and US government offices were also in the database in question.
The seller offered Twitter and Elon Musk to buy the data to avoid GDPR lawsuits:
“Twitter or Elon Musk if you are reading this you are already risking a GDPR fine over 5.4m breach imaging the fine of 400m users breach source. Your best option to avoid paying $276 million USD in GDPR breach fines like facebook did (due to 533m users being scraped) is to buy this data exclusively.”
