TikTok could be banned in 27 EU countries
TikTok, being one of the most used social media apps can be banned in 27 EU countries, Europe warns.
TikTok is constantly on the agenda with its violation of privacy from time to time. In this context, a new agenda has emerged. EU commissioner Thierry Breton issued a warning to TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew. The commissioner made it clear that the EU will do everything in its power to protect the privacy of its citizens and that, if necessary, the app will be banned from the EU. The EU expects TikTok to up its game and adhere to all of the Digital Services Act's (DSA) regulations.

With the EU, TikTok was already discussing DSA compliance, misinformation, and data safety policies. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), transparency of paid political content, child safety, and Russian disinformation were all discussed in multiple meetings with the company's top brass. "We will not hesitate to adopt the full scope of sanctions to protect our citizens if audits do not show full compliance," commissioner Breton told CEO Chew in the most recent video call. He went on to say that "younger audiences come with greater responsibility." It is unacceptable that, despite features that appear to be fun and harmless, it takes users just seconds to access content that is harmful and, in some cases, even life-threatening.
