New law passed: Social media will require age verification
Social media has been growing day by day yet some authorities want age verification. Here are all the details.
Social media has many benefits as well as bad parts too. Especially young people can be affected badly by it. Therefore age restriction is coming to some regions. Arkansas has become the second state to enact a bill mandating social media firms to verify the ages of their users. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed the “Social Media Safety Act” into law, which demands firms check the ages of users under 18 and to acquire parental agreement before kids register new accounts.
Social media to have age verification
Utah recently approved similar laws, which also place severe rules on how social media firms handle the accounts of their youngest users, including an age verification requirement. The laws are part of a growing movement to enforce age verification measures and other age-based restrictions for social media companies. At least three other states are currently considering similar legislation.
In September, firms are expected to check the ages of their customers via government-issued IDs like a driver’s license or “any commercially reasonable age verification method.” Social media, especially TikTok is under fire with a lot of criticism. Therefore age restriction becomes more important.
