Instagram co-founders' news app is now open to everyone
Instagram's new app is avaiable for everyone now. Here are all the details.
There is no longer a waitlist for Artifact, the customized news aggregation software created by Instagram's co-founders. The app is available on Android and in the Apple App Store in the majority of English-speaking countries. You won't need a phone number to use Artifact as of right now unless you want to register an account and switch to a different device.
More elements, including a social component, have also been added by the team of Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. You can now upload your contacts to see if a specific story has become popular among your friends. If a story is well-liked enough by your contacts, a badge will be displayed next to it.

You cannot see which or how many of your particular friends have read a story, according to Systrom, who spoke to TechCrunch. You can't just add one contact and use the feature to see what they're reading because there is a threshold before the badge shows. These are supposedly privacy concerns, but they ignore the fact that in order to use it, you'll need to submit the information for your contacts.
