According to local news outlet El Litoral, a girl named Milagros Soto was found dead at home after trying the "fainting challenge", also known as the "choking challenge", one of many viral "challenges" circulating on the social media app TikTok. The girl is believed to have hanged herself.
The girl's aunt wrote on Facebook that Milagros died while playing a TikTok challenge. The viral challenge encourages users to choke themselves until they pass out. Milagros is believed to have successfully attempted the challenge twice before, but died on the third attempt, Jam Press reported. This situation again raised some questions about TikTok's effect on teenagers and the value of their "challenges".
