Samsung introduces "Sleep Apnea" feature to Galaxy Watches
Samsung prepares to take a step for the Sleep Apnea issue, a problem many suffer from.
Samsung, known for its Galaxy Watch's capabilities in health and fitness tracking, is now set to introduce sleep apnea detection to its repertoire of features. This addition is scheduled for release in Korea through the Samsung Health Monitor app at the beginning of the upcoming year.
Sleep apnea is a prevalent and potentially severe medical disorder where individuals experience halts in breathing during their sleep. This can lead to a range of health complications, from high blood pressure and heart ailments to even stroke. Regrettably, many afflicted with this condition remain unaware of their situation.

With the introduction of the sleep apnea detection, Samsung aims to assist individuals in recognizing the early signs of this condition. To utilize this feature, users are required to monitor their sleep twice within a span of ten days, ensuring each session lasts over four hours. Following this, the watch will generate an estimate of the user's Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), indicating the potential severity of sleep apnea they may experience. Should the AHI score be significantly high, users will be advised to seek medical counsel for a more in-depth assessment and necessary treatment.
In addition to this, the Galaxy Watch series, with its new sleep apnea feature, seeks to augment its current health-monitoring suite which includes functionalities like blood pressure monitoring, ECG detection, and alerts for irregular heart rhythms.
However, it's essential to note that Samsung emphasizes the feature's role as a preliminary diagnostic tool. It isn't a substitute for a professional medical diagnosis or treatment. Nevertheless, this feature is poised to become an indispensable asset for individuals concerned about their sleep health.
