The Google Pixel Watch 2 maintains the circular dial design, complete with a rotating crown, physical button, and microphone hole on the right side. A notable change is the lightweight aluminum build, replacing the previous stainless steel construction. The smartwatch boasts an IP68 certification, making it dust and water-resistant up to 50 meters. Its curved AMOLED screen, measuring 1.6 inches with a 384 x 384-pixel resolution, features an always-on display mode.
In terms of health features, the Pixel Watch 2 retains the heart-rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, and sleep tracker from its predecessor. Notably, the heart-rate sensor has been upgraded to a multi-path design for more precise tracking. It can also detect atrial fibrillation and irregular heart-rate rhythms. Additionally, the smartwatch introduces a temperature sensor for measuring the user's skin temperature on demand. It offers support for various sports modes and auto-detection.
Enhanced safety features include built-in car crash and fall detection, enabling automatic connections to emergency services when necessary. The smartwatch stores vital medical information such as blood type, health conditions, and medication, facilitating accurate assistance during emergencies. A check-in timer sends alerts to emergency contacts if the user does not respond in time, and emergency sharing relays real-time location and battery level to selected contacts.
Despite its advanced features, the Pixel Watch 2 maintains its predecessor's battery life, offering 24 hours on a single charge, with a full charge taking 80 minutes. It facilitates quick connectivity to other devices via Fast Pair and allows users to control music playback, camera shutter, and smart home devices from their wrist. Google apps are also pre-installed for added functionality.
The Pixel Watch 2 is available with woven, active, sport, and leather bands, starting at $349 for the WiFi version, with a $50 ($399) premium for the LTE option. Buyers also receive six months of Fitbit Premium. Pre-orders are open, with sales starting next week, and pricing and availability vary by region.
