Google introduced the Pixel Watch 2
The Pixel Watch 2, which had been in leaks for some time and aimed to bring a fresh touch to the smartwatch market, was officially announced.
During its much-anticipated 'Made by Google' event, the tech behemoth showcased the latest in its lineup – the Google Pixel Watch 2. This new offering succeeds last year's model and, while it bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor in terms of design, there have been several noteworthy upgrades. One significant announcement is its expanded global availability, as it will be accessible in regions where the previous model wasn't introduced.
Design-wise, the Google Pixel Watch 2 maintains the classic circular dial complemented by a rotating crown. Additional elements include a singular physical button and a microphone hole situated on the right. A distinct feature in the latest model is its lightweight aluminium structure, a departure from the heavier stainless steel previously used. For those who prioritize durability, the smartwatch offers an IP68 rating, certifying it as dust and water-resistant up to a depth of 50 meters. Display enthusiasts will appreciate the curved 1.6-inch AMOLED screen, boasting a 384 x 384-pixel resolution, coupled with an always-on mode.
Google introduced the Pixel Watch 2
As with its predecessors, the Pixel Watch 2 continues to emphasize health and wellness. Retaining features like the heart-rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, and sleep tracker, the new model goes further by enhancing the heart-rate sensor to multi-path, which promises increased accuracy. This smartwatch now also has the capability to detect atrial fibrillation via the ECG app and provides irregular heart-rate rhythm data in the Fitbit app. It introduces a cEDA sensor, which detects stress signs and offers guided breathing sessions, and a novel temperature sensor enabling users to monitor their skin temperature as required. Active users can also benefit from the various sports modes and auto-detection support.
In terms of practicality and safety, Google has equipped the Pixel Watch 2 with advanced features. It can detect car crashes and falls, automatically connecting to emergency services if the user remains unresponsive. Furthermore, it can store crucial medical information like blood type, prevailing health conditions, and ongoing medications, ensuring that emergency services can provide timely and accurate assistance. Other provisions include a check-in timer that alerts emergency contacts if the user remains inactive and a feature that shares the user's real-time location and battery level with selected contacts during emergencies.
Powering the device is a battery that promises 24 hours of life on a full charge – a trait consistent with the previous model. A complete recharge requires a mere 80 minutes. Connectivity features like Fast Pair make it simple to link the watch with other devices, allowing users to control music, camera functions, and even some smart home devices directly from their wrist. Furthermore, the device comes equipped with essential Google apps for enhanced functionality.
For those interested in acquiring the Google Pixel Watch 2, it is available in various bands, including woven, active, sport, and leather. The starting price for the WiFi version is $349, with the LTE variant priced at $399. Moreover, a six-month Fitbit Premium subscription is included. Pre-orders have already commenced, and sales will begin in the following week. However, the exact pricing and availability might vary based on the region.
