This newest addition boasts the S9 Apple silicon chip, which promises enhanced performance with 60% more transistors and a performance boost of 30% compared to the Series 8. This chip is designed with a four-core neural engine that doubles the speed for neural tasks. Moreover, Siri requests are now executed directly on the watch, ensuring faster responses and heightened security. Dictation accuracy is enhanced by 25%, thanks to on-device processing. The battery life remains consistent at 18 hours.
The Series 9 watch now supports ultra-wideband for Precision Finding, akin to the functionality of the AirTag. The device has also deepened its integration with HomePod. One of the significant upgrades includes the always-on Retina display, which has been tweaked to achieve brightness levels of up to 2000 nits, with the capability to dim down to a single nit for scenarios like nighttime or while in a theater.

A novel feature is the "Double Tap" hand gesture, allowing users touchless interaction with their device. In terms of aesthetics, the Series 9 watch will now be available in new shades, including pink. Its design is more eco-friendly, utilizing recycled materials and coming in more compact packaging. The leather bands have been phased out and are now substituted with "FineWoven" bands, along with options from brands like Hermès and Nike. Pricing for the Apple Watch Series 9 starts at $399, with available sizes of 41mm and 45mm in both aluminum and stainless steel variants.
