These data are the oldest genetic information ever obtained from any hominid. Scientists are trying to figure out exactly where this long-extinct creature lands on the human family tree. In the research article, it was stated that no genetic material has ever been obtained from any hominid older than 18,000 years. The team continues to analyze protein sequencing data from the tooth enamel of 4 individuals belonging to the genus Paranthropus robustus, each of which lived about 2.42 million years ago. There are still much to be done on the subject but findings have gathered a new perspective.
