Research claims: People who consume sugary drinks go bald more
The study, published Jan. 1 in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Nutrients, studied 1,028 men aged 18 to 45 years living in China in January-April 2022. Participants answered questions about hair loss, eating habits, and mental health issues. It was observed that men who consumed sugary drinks such as cola, fruit juice, energy drink and tea a day had about 30 percent more hair loss than those who did not consume any. This rate went up to 42 percent among the participants who said they drank more than one sugary beverage a day.
The research team also found a relationship between sugary drinks and mental health. The analysis also revealed that people who drink three drinks a day have a 25 percent higher risk of depression. The research team emphasized that the relationship between sugary drinks and hair loss is a correlation, not a cause and effect. Scientists also stated that in addition to drinking habits, other foods consumed, health and stress may also play a role in hair loss.
