Power outages continue in Ohio after strong wind storm causes widespread damage
Thousands of households remain without power in Northeast Ohio due to wind damage.
Ohio (TechtUSA/WJW) - As a result of powerful winds that swept through Ohio on Saturday, thousands of Ohio residents, including those in Northeast Ohio, are still without electricity on Sunday morning.
According to FirstEnergy, there are over 120,000 power outages across the state as of 7 a.m., which is a reduction from the peak outage numbers during Saturday afternoon, with repair crews working continuously to restore power.
Counties with the highest number of power outages, including Trumbull, Mahoning, Stark, Ashtabula, Geauga, and Cuyahoga, are experiencing at least 10,000 outages each due to the windstorm. However, FirstEnergy has not yet provided estimated restoration times for these affected areas.
Several counties in Ohio were under a high wind warning and wind advisory until midnight on Saturday due to a forecast of strong winds. Southwest winds were predicted to range from 25 to 35 mph, with gusts of up to 60 mph.
POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: Crews are working on restoring power to all. The high winds are causing problems everywhere. Please be patient.
