New viruses have been found in oceans!

Viruses are a problem for human health because they can not be killed like bacterias. Human-kind have been fighting with viruses for a long time but there is no cure. Whether it is coronavirus, flu or other type of virus it is your immune system's job to kill them. A new type of virus has been found that lives on the sun-drenched surfaces of the seas and oceans. 

New viruses have been found

Organisms called "mirusviruses" are associated with both giant viruses and herpes viruses. The discovery may therefore play a role in illuminating the dark evolutionary history of these viruses, including herpes simplex, which causes herpes sores on various parts of the body. 

The properties and discovery of mirusviruses are detailed in a paper published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Nature. In the article, it was stated that this virus actually belongs to a realm of viruses called Duplodnaviria. Duplodnaviria consists of large double-stranded DNA viruses, including herpes viruses.

According to the findings, mirusviruses do not affect humans. They tend to infect only single-celled plankton. But this means that the ancestors of herpes viruses also once infected single-celled organisms in the seas.
