Native American people call for boycott against Avatar 2
Avatar 2 is now on theaters after a long wait. Yet now some people have some ideas about the movie which are not pleasant.
Avatar: The Way of Water, the highly anticipated film by acclaimed director James Cameron, was released last week, 13 years after the first Avatar. Although the film received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences, it caused a reaction from some segments. Native Americans urged viewers to boycott the film, recalling some of Cameron's past statements and inspirations.
Native American people call for boycott against Avatar 2
Avatar was a White savior story at its core and James Cameron said the Lakota should have “fought harder” with the foresight that their descendants would all be suicidal. I won’t be seeing the new one. It does nothing for Native Americans but suck oxygen for itself at our expense https://t.co/A1Lp5rw66f

In an old interview, Cameron explained that Avatar's story was inspired by the Native American Lakota tribe. The film was also accused of committing to the theme "The white man comes and rescues the needy natives". Native American rights advocate Brett Chapman used the following statements in a tweet calling for a boycott: At its core is the story of the "white savior". He also said that the Lakota tribe would "fight harder" if they foresaw that their children would be suicidal in the future. I will not watch the new movie.
