Gene-hacked sausages are approved: What are they made of?
Nowadays it can be hard to understand what we put in our bodies, now gene-hacked sausages are also approved. Let's see what they are made of.
Our diet is our number one weapon to fight diseases and to help us stay healthy. A balanced diet helps our immune system stay strong and fight diseases, so what do we put out bodies? Sausages are already not so good for our health and now gene-hacked sausage is approved to be sold now, but what do they consist of? Let's take a look.
Gene-hacked sausages are here
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved genetically modified pork sausages to enter the food supply. This system, fully known as CRISPR-Cas9, allows researchers to add, remove or alter the DNA sequence of various parts of the genome. By doing so they can change the dna of the sausages.
This technology, which creates excitement with the possibility of providing solutions to genetic diseases, but also brings ethical debates, was invented 10 years ago.
"It's important for a university to set a precedent by working with federal regulators to get these animals into the food supply," doctors said. "If we don't go through this process, all our research will go to waste because it will never reach the public," the scientist added. What scientists try to do is change the understanding of gene hacked food and help people trust sausages again.
