The multi-layered manuscript was able to provide lost messages thanks to the efforts of a "medievalist," a specialist in medieval history and culture, from the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW). Gregory Kessel "has made a great discovery thanks to his profound knowledge of old Syriac texts and script characteristics," according to a statement issued by Claudia Rapp, the director of the Institute for Medieval Research at the OeAW.
The oldest Greek manuscripts that have persisted across time, such as the Codex Sinaiticus, were not penned until at least a century before this antiquity.
