Exercise physiologist: "Three reasons to run in cold weather"
The weather has been quite cold for a while now and yet maybe best time for your health. Here are all the details.
Weather has got pretty cold these days and while some doctors do not recomment running in cold weather, some doctors claim actually it is a good thing to do. Exercise physiologist Tom Holland has listed three reasons why cold weather running is good. Stating that doing sports indoors is more attractive to many people as the weather gets colder, Holland recommended that you go outside and do sports.
According to Holland, one of the best things about running in the cold is that people perform better and feel better than in warm weather. Stating that the body tries to balance body temperature during running, the exercise physiologist said this situation gets worse in the heat because blood moves towards the skin to produce sweat: In this process, blood is drawn from our heart, which energizes our running.
Holland said that in cold weather, blood travels towards the heart, which is why it's better. Holland emphasized that running in the cold will make people feel better mentally. Exercises such as jogging release mood-boosting chemicals such as endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin.
The physiologist also stated that exercising in nature rather than indoors is good for mental health. Being sedentary in the winter makes people more susceptible to illness. Reminding this, the physiologist said that physical activities to be done in winter will strengthen immunity.
