Cuban music legend Pablo Milanés dies at 79!
Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said the cultural community is in mourning over Milanés' death. His talent was recognized at a young age. Born on February 24, 1943 in Bayamo in the east of the country, Milanés' talent was recognized at an early age. Milanés won a singing competition when she was 6 years old. When the family moved to the capital in the 1950s so that he could hone his talent, Milanés studied at the Havana Conservatory of Music.
He learned the piano and worked with other musicians in those days, which are considered to be the golden years of Cuban music. The singer entered the Cuban music scene in the 1960s with Mis 22 Anos. Cultural activities increased in the country after Fidel Castro's victory over the Fulgencisho Batista regime in 1959. Milanés was also one of the pioneers, along with Silvio Rodriguez and Sara Gonzalez, of the musical movement Nueva Trova (New Troy), which has ties to the left wave gaining momentum in Latin America. This music movement included colonialism, racism and anti-US rhetoric in its lyrics. Famous songs such as "Yo no te pido", "Los años mozos", "Cuba va" and "Yolanda" by Milanés quickly became famous all over the world.
