ChatGPT got its first ban from New York
Artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT has been banned from schools in New York City, USA. In a statement made by the New York City Department of Education yesterday, it was announced that access to ChatGPT was blocked on internet connections and devices in schools. Authorities said the bot could give false information and be used for cheating, so they were worried it could harm students' education.
Department spokeswoman Jenna Lyle said the first-of-its-kind ban was based on "concerns about potential adverse effects on student education and both the safety and accuracy of the content."
Lyle said: The chatbot can provide quick and easy answers to questions. However, it does not develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for academic and lifelong success. It was also stated that schools may request access permission to use ChatGPT in courses related to artificial intelligence and technology.
