BBC smears Turkey's name with an unsuccessful weight loss surgery
BBC, with its research on 7 patients who came to Turkey for weight loss surgery and died, muddied the name of Turkey.
Turkey ranks one of the first countries chosen by many patients from around the world every year to solve their health and cosmetic problems. For hair transplant to weight loss surgery and also nose job operations, Turkey has many good hospitals and good doctors serving all patients from all over the world. While having many successful operations, BBC stated "growing number of patients" are having negative experiences while in fact 7 British patients died due to surgeries in Turkey since 2019, which means in the last 4 years.

One of those patients was Joey. He travelled to Turkey to get a weight loss surgery, yet lost his life. BBC has shared the news on Instagram and many people started to react on the post. One stated "If it was not Turkey but UK he would be alive? Is that the core of the video?" while others claimed "It was totally wrong to generalize whole countries name for 7 patients that died in the last 4 years.
Weight loss surgery is a quite dangerous operation where the patient has to sign a waiver before taking it. With the use of social media and low expenses many patients from all around the world have turned to Turkey for surgery. While there can be scammers, it is highly important to do your search well and choose the best doctors. The way how BBC conducted the story has been criticized online. "The UK might want to keep British medical expenses inside the UK" one user said after how Turkey's name was used and generalized in the story. After all, using all countries name and putting the blame on a country does not seem right or unbiased.
