Hopkins, 85, stated in the description of the video that quitting drinking had saved his life, and appealed to other addicts to encourage them to seek support. He shared his ideas with a post on Instagram. He stated: Celebrating 47 years of quitting drinking. It's not my intention to overwhelm you, I hope my message is encouraging. Shout out to those battling addiction… Be kind to yourself in this age of bullying and hate. Remove people who hurt you from your life."
Hopkins said he realized 47 years ago that he was helpless and wouldn't live very long if he didn't change things. The master actor said, "Depression is also a part of life. Life is not easy," and encouraged those in need to get support: If you need help with addiction, share it with someone. Talk to someone you trust or get professional help. Hopkins said, "There's no cost to ask for help, but it will give you a whole new life," and ended his post as follows:
