Alibaba Gathering is intending to part into six units according to Reuters. As China eases its restrictions on private businesses, the various entities will look for fundraising opportunities and market listings.
Alibaba to restructure as six companies
The major reorganization will see the company split into six groups: the Cloud Intelligence Group (cloud solutions), the Taobao Tmall Commerce Group (local online commerce services), the Local Services Group (delivery services), the Cainiao Smart Logistics Group (logistics), the Global Digital Commerce Group (AliExpress), and the Digital Media and Entertainment Group (gaming, movies, and web services).
In a letter to staff, Chief Executive Daniel Zhang said the intention is to make the organization “more agile, shorten decision-making links and respond faster”. He will continue as chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group, which will take a new role as a holding company management model.
After traveling extensively for months, Alibaba founder Jack Ma returned to China on Monday. Ma, who was once China's richest man, was the founder of Alibaba in the 1990s.
