Amazon forest has been slaughtered for meat industry
In the study of the well-known British newspapers The Guardian and the Brazilian media organization Reporter Brasil, the data of the UK-based non-profit news organization Investigative Journalism Bureau and satellite images of the Netherlands-based research company AidEnvironment were used. The results are scary as they found more than 20 slaughterhouses in the Amazon in 2017-2022.
In the research, it was stated that 1.7 million hectares of land were destroyed in 6 years. In the research, it was pointed out that the beef produced in Brazil is mostly sold to countries in the European Union, the UK and China.
Alex Wijeratna from the US-based environmental protection organization Mighty Earth said: "Amazon is approaching a dangerous threshold. So these numbers are very worrying. Losing so many trees in the Amazon cannot be afforded. This will have implications for the entire planet."
