Research company warns crypto users
Kaspersky researched cryptocurrency user trends. According to the research, more than half of crypto money users are affected by cybercrime.
Kaspersky, in its survey for research, found that 41% of respondents think they know about potential cyber threats to cryptocurrency users, while 9% have no knowledge of the subject. It revealed that 59% of respondents are affected by cryptocurrency crimes, and 40% of cryptocurrency holders do not believe their existing protection systems are effective.
Are users familiar with cryptocurrency threats?
The research shows that users are not aware of the potential threats facing cryptocurrency holders. Despite the growing popularity of cryptocurrency, only 41% of respondents think they are well-informed about the potential risks of using it, while 9% have no knowledge at all. In addition, awareness of these threats increases with decreasing age. Accordingly, it is also revealed that young consumers under the age of 35 have more information on the subject.
Cyber threats such as virtual theft and fraud are among the most common negative aspects of using cryptocurrency. 25% and 26% of respondents cite these as their top concerns, respectively. And 23% of those surveyed don't even realize that even if they don't own cryptocurrency, they could become the target of crypto threats.
Vitaly Kamluk, Head of Kaspersky's APAC Global Research and Analysis Team said, “Despite the recent decline of the cryptocurrency market, the level of malicious activity in this area has not decreased. The crypto industry, which is still in its infancy, remains a primary target for scammers".
