Will Nothing release a foldable smartphone?
Nothing, which has been dominating the tech world's agenda with its transparent design for two years, made its final decision about the foldable smartphone market.
Nothing recently introduced its latest smartphone, the Phone (2), to the global market. The Phone (2) comes as a successor to the Phone (1), marking the brand's second handset in the market. Though the company has created smartphones with a unique identity, they currently have no intention to venture into the realm of foldable devices.
In a recent interview with India Today, Nothing's CEO, Carl Pei, shared some interesting insights about the brand's future plans. Pei confirmed that the company has no intention of venturing into the foldable smartphone market. His perspective is that this specific segment still caters to a niche group of consumers, and doesn't fascinate him personally. He feels as if these devices are being pushed onto consumers who may not really need such a smartphone.

Pei took his opinions further, claiming that most foldable smartphones look practically identical to him. If you remove the logo, he said, customers would likely struggle to distinguish between foldable models from different brands. This statement comes despite the fact that leading smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Motorola have already released such devices.
Interestingly, it's been rumored that even OnePlus, which shares historical ties with Pei, is planning to launch its first-ever foldable smartphone soon. The characterization of foldable devices as niche by Pei is seen as somewhat ironic, given that many view the Glyph interface that Nothing uses as gimmicky.
