Huawei going down: Customers are shifting to Xiaomi, Apple, & Honor
The President of the Xiaomi Group, Lu Weibing, claims that the sanctions caused the Chinese tech company to lose about 80 million of its consumers. Huawei lost access to its vendors that it used to obtain US-based technology from and was cut off from its main chip supplier, TSMC, which produced its proprietary Kirin SoCs. In other words, the company's smartphone business was essentially crippled, which contributed to its demise.
After the US imposed these penalties, the company quickly declined from being the second-largest smartphone OEM in the world. According to the senior Xiaomi official, 50 million of Huawei's 80 million lost users switched to Xiaomi. However, the company had lost 20 million of its clientele to Apple, the company that makes the iPhones, and the remaining 10 million were taken over by its former subsidiary, Honor.
