This time, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was defeated by the Galaxy S23 Ultra!
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, one of the most talked-about models in the smartphone world, is these days mostly in the news for its defeats.
Apple has introduced its novel titanium case with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, touting enhanced strength and durability compared to the aluminum constructions of its predecessors. However, the practicality of these theoretical benefits was recently called into question by YouTuber PhoneBuff, whose drop test suggested that the robust titanium frame may not substantially impact real-world drop protection.
In a meticulous examination of durability, PhoneBuff employed robotic arms to conduct a drop test, pitting the iPhone 15 Pro Max against its competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, in a series of rounds. Both devices were subjected to the same conditions: dropped from an identical height and onto the same materials to maintain test fairness and consistency.
Upon being dropped from waist-level, the iPhone 15 Pro Max manifested extensive cracks across its glass back, a disappointing outcome when compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra which, despite its ostensibly less durable materials, only exhibited minor cracks at two of its corners.

When the testing entered its second phase, both smartphones were dropped corner-first. The iPhone, while maintaining an undamaged titanium frame, began to lose its rear glass. Conversely, the Galaxy S23 Ultra revealed minor frame deformations, but impressively remained entirely operational.
In the third round, where both devices were dropped screen-first, significant cracking was evident on both models. Notably, the Galaxy S23 Ultra fared slightly worse, with its curved screen seemingly contributing to the damage.
In the test’s final installment, where the phones were dropped from an elevated height, the Galaxy S23 Ultra maintained a consistent appearance to its prior state. In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro Max revealed further shattering on both its front and rear glass sections.
Despite their extensive tumbles, both smartphones miraculously remained functional. Nevertheless, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, even with its aluminum frame, secured a win, scoring 39 out of 40 in contrast to the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s score of 37.
