Amidst the bustling tech industry's news, Xiaomi, a pivotal player in the world of smartphones, finds itself grappling with swirling rumors and advancements in its MIUI software. A tipster recently stirred the pot, asserting that MIUI 14 would mark the culmination of the software's journey, only to be replaced by a self-developed MiOS, infused with elements from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Notably, the rumblings within the industry are juxtaposed with the knowledge that Xiaomi has been investing its resources into the development of MIUI 15 for quite some time. Further muddying the waters is speculation that even if MiOS were to see the light of day, it might cater exclusively to the Chinese market.

In an intriguing development, despite the prevailing confusion, Xiaomi is meticulously implementing a valuable feature for its devices blessed with MIUI 14. A recent software build for the Xiaomi 12S Pro in China, identified as V14.0.10.0.TLECNXM, didn’t only elevate the MIUI version but also carried with it the August 2023 security patches, according to the official changelog. However, lurking beneath the surface of this update is a feature that empowers users to enforce a 120Hz refresh rate across all applications.

This fresh addition, nestled under the ‘Refresh rate’ settings and labeled as ‘Apps using high refresh rate’, unfolds a list of all installed applications upon being tapped. Users find themselves with the liberty to toggle the high refresh rate for applications on a per-app basis. An issue often encountered is that certain applications cling to a regular 60Hz even when the phone’s display is poised at a higher refresh rate. This newly unveiled feature successfully circumvents this issue, permitting users to push such applications to operate at a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Consequently, users can enjoy a seamless experience, unmarred by the jitters resulting from fluctuating refresh rates between applications.

The ripples of this new option are expected to extend to other smartphones under the Xiaomi umbrella soon, with anticipations that it will weave into MIUI 15 as well. However, the inclusivity of this feature across all phones and tablets, particularly those boasting a high refresh rate display, remains shrouded in uncertainty for the time being.
