The Vivo X100 Pro will also feature satellite connectivity
The race to develop satellite-connected phones among Chinese tech companies continues at full speed. The latest to join the race is the Vivo X100 Pro.
Vivo is setting the stage for the launch of its new flagship smartphone, the Vivo X100 Pro. Recent buzz around this device has been primarily due to its rumored satellite connectivity feature. A Weibo post by WhyLab suggested that this particular model, designated V2309A, has made an appearance on the MIIT certification site. The listing highlighted the device's two-way satellite connectivity, hinting at the possibility for users to send and receive text messages, pictures, voice recordings, and even videos without relying on conventional cellular networks.
The underpinning tech behind this advanced feature is the Unisoc V8821 chipset, announced earlier in July. There's been chatter that Vivo played a collaborative role with Unisoc during the chipset's development phase. This chipset is tailored for 5G non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) and is expected to manage the satellite connectivity.
The Vivo X100 Pro will also feature satellite connectivity
Satellite connectivity is garnering attention as a marquee feature in this year's flagship smartphone releases. Its practicality is evident, especially in emergency situations where conventional cell service might be unavailable. Apple introduced this capability with its iPhone 14 series, emphasizing its utility as a safety feature. This trend has caught on, with other Android manufacturers, like Huawei with its Mate 60 Pro, integrating similar features. Vivo's decision to incorporate satellite connectivity aligns with this industry shift.
Technical specs suggest that the Vivo X100 Pro will be driven by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset. Its Pro+ variant is expected to incorporate the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Besides its groundbreaking connectivity features, the Vivo X100 series will boast IP68 certification, ensuring resistance against water and dust.
The anticipated launch for these smartphones is set for later this year in China. There remains some ambiguity about the availability of the satellite connectivity feature in global markets.
On a related note, Vivo has expanded its offerings with the launch of Vivo V29 and V29 Pro in India, both of which come with a stunning AMOLED display boasting a 120Hz refresh rate.
