The release date for HarmonyOS 4.0 is now confirmed
The release date for HarmonyOS 4.0, developed by the Chinese tech giant Huawei, has now been confirmed.
Huawei is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated HarmonyOS 4.0 at the HDC.Together2023, the Huawei Developer Conference, on August 4th. This major update to their proprietary operating system is expected to bring about design changes and exciting new features, enhancing the existing version and promising a personalized, super fun experience for users.
HarmonyOS, also known as HongMeng OS in Chinese, has been a part of Huawei's developmental journey since 2012 as part of their efforts to reduce reliance on Android. The restrictions imposed by the US government on Huawei's access to Google services in 2019 accelerated the development of this microkernel-based operating system. It is designed to provide a unified operating experience across various Huawei devices and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, setting it apart from competitors like Google and Apple.
Currently, the beta testing of HarmonyOS 4.0 is in progress, and early user feedback has been largely positive. The beta testing is presently confined to China, but it is expected that the formal launch will follow the same pattern. Notably, HarmonyOS has a history of being generous with updates to older devices, indicating broad device support for the new update.
The CEO of Huawei, Richard Yu, has teased some of the exciting features to be included in HarmonyOS 4.0, particularly in relation to Huawei cars. The update will reportedly bring significant audio improvements, enabling multiple in-car devices, screens, and audio zones. It will also introduce six-zone sound source positioning, significantly enhancing the in-car audio experience.
The user interface of HarmonyOS 4.0 is also expected to undergo significant enhancements, with improved fluid animations and refined UI elements. This change is expected to make the user experience more appealing and intuitive for both smartphone and tablet users.
On another note, there are fascinating developments regarding the Huawei Mate 60 series. Rumors suggest that this series might return to utilizing 5G networks and might introduce a new "Dynamic Island" design. While the standard version of the Huawei Mate 60 series might keep a centered punch-hole front camera design, the "Dynamic Island" design is expected to be exclusive to high-end models like the Huawei Mate 60 Pro. The exact release date for the Mate 60 series is yet to be confirmed, but it's expected to launch sometime between mid-September to mid-October, offering users the latest technologies for a premium smartphone experience.
