The official deadline for Apple to release a USB-C iPhone announced
Apple has now 24 months to create a new USB-C iPhone under EU rule.
The European Union (EU) has set an official deadline that all smartphones sold in its jurisdiction must have a USB-C port, including iPhone. The EU officially approved charging law in October, but it was not known exactly when the law would come into effect. Now, in a newly published directive, the EU states that all smartphones must have USB-C by 28 December 2024.
Apple will have to release a USB-C iPhone in 28 December 2024
As detailed in the new law from EU, tablets, like phones, will need to switch to USB-C under the new law. Products that rely solely on wireless charging will not need to include USB-C.
Greg Joswiak "Joz", Apple's worldwide marketing VP, confirmed that Apple has no choice but to comply with the EU's new rule. Joz hasn't revealed when Apple will switch to USB-C, but it looks like they're no longer likely to delay the deadline.
It is believed that next year's new iPhones 15 will already have the USB-C port, even though Apple could still launch phones with a Lightning port next year. Furthermore, other reports tip that USB-C will be special to iPhone 15 Pro models whereas vanilla and Plus model will rely on classic Lightning port.
